Having chosen your background scrolling area colour, move on to choose your font. You can choose any installed Windows font. However, be particularly careful about this and choose one that is easy to read, particularly at a distance. The default is Verdana, a font specifically designed to be easily read on screen.

Next choose your font colour; one that contrasts well with your background. For reading at a distance and for long periods of time, select a font style and background that is not only easy to read, but also easy on the eyes

Next choose a suitable font size. This will depend upon how you are using Tele-Prompt. You can use quite a small font for pure audio recording work where you will be seated normally at you computer. However, when using Tele-Prompt for video work you’ll need to seat the presenter some distance away from the screen to ensure you maintain the illusion of an effective eye contact with your viewer. So choose a font size that is comfortable to read at a distance of between 8 to 12 feet.

To complete your choice of colour scheme for the text scrolling area, select a font colour that contrasts well with that of the background.

It’s now time to set up your default scrolling speed. This will depend upon the size of the font you have chosen, since obviously a small font will display more text within the scrolling area than when using a large one! It will also depend to some extent upon the content and subject style of your script. Recording audio for a fast paced 30 seconds commercial will require a different speaking speed and style than say recording audio for a “book at bedtime” or relaxing “meditation” CD!
