Tele-Prompt’s
scrolling text needs to be in a simple text or .txt format So prepare a short test file in Notepad or a similar text editor. Then, using the “Open” button in the Teleprompter panel on the left, load this file into Tele-Prompt

Loading a text file into Tele-Prompt

If you prefer, you can type your test script directly into the scrolling text area and then save this file in the normal way. Don’t worry too much about the content of this file initially, you are merely going to use it to establish a comfortable scrolling speed to set as your default. The scroll speed adjustment slider varies the speed between a setting of 1 (barely moving) and 99 (a speed so fast that no one is likely to actually use it!) The initial default speed is set at 50 and, as a guide, I have found that my own normal reading speed usually settles at around a reading of 60 to 65.

Saving your script as a text file in Tele-Prompt

Whichever method you choose, once you have your text on screen, click anywhere in the scrolling area and insert a few carriage returns at the beginning of the document. This will bring the first line down a little and, once you start scrolling, allow you time to read these first few lines before they scroll off the top of the screen!

The green marker arrow on the left of the display helps the presenter maintain a consistent reading area on the screen. And it should be adjusted to a position between midway and the top of the scrolling area. In video work, the closer the text can be read to the top of the screen, the closer the presenter’s eyes will be to the centre of the video camera lens above. And this will help the illusion of having real personal eye contact between them and the final viewer of your production.
