Tele-Prompt is being continually updated and improved so the screen shots here will also be updated soon to reflect the slight change of panel layout and the additional features.

These include:
(1) Better illuminated display to indicate recording in progress.

(2) Recorder timer to show elapsed recording time.

(3) Start and stop scrolling and recording via computer keyboard.

(4) Adjust scroll speed via computer keyboard.

In the meantime, the new Tele-prompt screen layouts can be seen on the main features page

With your test script in place, press the “Start” button and your text will immediately start scrolling upwards and off the screen. Read your script and adjust the scrolling speed so that your eyes remain roughly looking at the same place on screen. You can adjust the scrolling speed using the horizontal slider, numbers in the small box to the right or via the F1 and F2 keys on your keyboard. I would suggest making your initial adjustments using the slider and then fine tuning the speed with the numeric display. As a guide, normal speech works out at about 125 words per minute.

With the scrolling speed adjusted, you have now completed your settings in the Teleprompter Panel. And, as I mentioned earlier, these will now become your new personalised default settings; ones that, unless you subsequently change them, will be remembered by Tele-Prompt.

Whether you imported an existing text file or typed directly into the scrolling area, you can still edit that text on screen and save the amended file in the usual way. Furthermore, you can also adjust your position anywhere within the document using the normal Windows scroll bar located on the right of the text area. This allows you to quickly navigate through your document by scrolling up or down to locate a specific paragraph or section of text.

Therefore, if you make a mistake when reading or simply wish to re-record a certain passage again, you only have to scroll to the relevant section in the document and press “Start”. The text will then immediately start scrolling once more from this point and at exactly the same speed as before; a useful feature in ensuring your “new” audio will match the original recording.

For added flexibility and ease of use, particularly when using Tele-Prompt on a laptop for example, that is situated some distance away from the talent, you can control your scrolling text by simply pressing certain keys on the keyboard

Esc will stop or “pause” the script
F1 will drop the speed back one "notch" at a time
F2 will increase the scroll speed one "notch" at a time
Please note you have to place the curser somewhere inside the scrolling text area - it does not matter where - for these keyboard controls to work.

With your normal scroll speed established at say “60” on the sliding scale, if some minutes into the script you find your text scrolling a little too quickly, you can fine tune that by gently pressing the F1 key.

If you want to slow down slightly more, just press the key again and again until you are happy with the new speed. The scroll speed scale is very sensitive and allows for very fine tuning of the scrolling speed of the text. The same applies of course if you need to increase the speed very slightly; just press the F2 key in this case
